Update: 8.00pm Sunday 19th December 2010
The "Big Freeze" is here again and is set to continue, but we are keen to offer nursery services to those that need it. We have, therefore, made the decision to open Little Angels from 9am to 4pm Monday 20th December; however the number of places available will be dependant on the staffing levels.
Opening late and closing early will allow extra time for safe travel for all. If you do not need your place, please would you let us know as soon as possible so that we have a realistic idea of the numbers we will need to cater for. Please consider whether your journey is necessary in these icy conditions, especially if you have children in the car with you. Keep warm and stay safe.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!!
Happy New Year!!
Whilst I think we can all agree there is something magical about the snow it does create some problems! In the bad weather, or more specifically the snow, I will endeavour to keep Little Angels open and operating as normal. However, as the majority of the team live outside Dumbleton, the normal running of the nursery will depend on staff being able to get to work and for satisfactory staff:child ratios to be maintained.
I am obviously conscious of the safety of both the children and my staff, and everyone's well being in these extreme weather conditions.
IF THE NURSERY HAS TO CLOSE WE WILL UPDATE THE WEBSITE AND CONTACT EACH FAMILY BY TELEPHONE INFORMING YOU OF THE SITUATION.
If the nursery is limited to the number of children, due to staff shortages, I will have to limit the admissions. In this instance it is very difficult for us to decide who needs the places more than others, so can I ask that if you do not absolutely need your nursery place on that day would you please lets us know. We can then keep that space for those who need it and will, of course, offer you a swap or a refund.
Finally, if the weather conditions worsen throughout the day we may take the decision to close early in order to ensure that all children and staff have a fair chance of getting home safe and sound in poor conditions. If this is the case we will contact you as early as possible to give you time to arrange for early collection of your child.
Many thanks, wrap up warm and enjoy the snow. Tracey

Ofsted Inspection
Following our inspection on 5th November I am pleased to inform you that our long awaited Ofsted Report has been issued and a copy can be found by clicking on this link: Little Angels Ofsted Inspection Report
The inspection was a standard inspection and I was pleased with the outcome. We are still a very new setting operating in an environment that poses its own challenges (i.e. it is not a purpose built site with exclusive use), however we are pleased to be working well with the local community and to be providing welcoming and friendly childcare, that was lacking in the local area.
Ofsted's role is to ensure that all registered settings are meeting certain standards to ensure the best outcomes for the children who attend. They currently use a rating scale ranging from 1: Outstanding to 4: Inadequate, and they have given us an overall rating of 3: Satisfactory. This means that they consider us to be sound but that we have scope for some improvement.
We have already taken steps to address some of the issues raised in the report and are working on a long term action plan for working towards the next stages of developing the quality of the setting:
- We have reviewed and improved our risk assessments - We have rearranged the Playroom to help us provide a more suitable rest area for those children who sleep or rest while they are with us - We have ordered more multicultural resources to include in the children's every day play activities and will continue to include diversity and the wider world in our planned activities and when we are talking with the children at nursery - We are planning to have a more structured procedure for evaluating the setting and will be drawing up a parental questionnaire for your feedback in the new year
At this point I would like to thank the parents for their continued support of Little Angels and would like to thank Kate and the team for all their efforts in creating a warm welcoming and fun environment for the children to learn and develop. We are all looking forward to the future and to seeing the nursery go from strength to strength.

SWINE FLU UPDATE
The World Health Organization has increased its human influenza pandemic alert level to phase 6 declaring a Pandemic. To spend more time and energy treating the increasing numbers who have the virus, the government has decided to move from containment and outbreak management policies to the treatment phase.
This means that:
* GPs will be able to diagnose swine flu on the basis of symptoms rather than waiting for laboratory testing * all tracing of people who have been in contact with a sufferer will stop * people who may have been exposed to the virus will not be given anti-viral drugs * anyone who is diagnosed with swine flu will continue to be offered anti-virals until further notice
Advice from NHS Gloucestershire :
"As we approach the summer holidays parents should encourage their children to continue maintaining good hygiene. Schools have been encouraging children to wash their hands and to follow the Catch It, Bin It, Kill It advice. Parents should continue with this while children are at home or on holiday. "If you or your child experiences flu-like symptoms you should check you symptoms using the online flu checker at www.nhs.uk or by calling the National Swine Flu Information Line on 0800 1 513 513. "If after checking your symptoms you think have swine flu, please stay at home and contact your GP by telephone. Your GP/NHS Direct will advise you if antivirals are required and where these can be collected from. "If you are on holiday in the UK you should call NHS Direct on 0845 4647 instead of your GP. NHS Direct can advise what you should do in the area you are staying. Please do not go to a local A&E or MIU."
NHS Gloucestershire and Gloucestershire County Council are closely working together in implementing the current national policy and advice regarding schools/nurseries. In line with Government guidance, school closures are not necessary as we move from containment to treatment.
Please remember to maintain good hygiene practice and encourage this with your children. We will continue to maintain or good hygiene practices at nursery and will send any sick children home in accordance with our illness policy. You all know your children better than anyone and if you think that they are poorly, please keep them at home, check their symptoms with your GP or health visitor and only bring them back to nursery if they are well enough to be here and do not pose a health threat to others.

Open Days at Little Angels
The open days held in June 2009 were very well attended and have resulted in a number of places being taken up at the nursery. The feedback from all visitors was very positive and we are delighted to now be open!
